During the 1970s, I spent a lot of time between Antigua and Trinidad. Calypso music, though still around, was soon overwhelmed in Eastern Caribbean by Reggae. Fortunately, I got to hear a couple of big steel bands before they retired. They could be both lyrical or raucous, depending on the mood. The best I remember at the grand opening of the Secret Harbour Hotel in Grenada, 1972? Here is a medley of two Calypso favourites, Yellow Bird and Marianne.

Sounds great. |

I enjoyed that! I dig Caribbean music on steel. Herb Remington and Kayton Roberts both did interesting versions of Yellow Brid complete with bird calls, frog croaks and marimba effects. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |
