Stonewall Jackson has a special place in my heart.

My elder brother, Harold, played steel in Stonewall's band. Harold became paralyzed and was told by doctor's he would never walk or play steel again. Stonewall told Harold he was welcome to join him on stage once he believed he could play.

Occupational therapists figured out a way for Harold to hold a bar in his left hand. He worked for hours each day on his bar, pedals and fingering. I didn't know it but Harold was also working hard to walk again.

Anyhow, to make a long story short, Harold walked onto the Opry stage and played a set with Stonewall. It wouldn't have happened without that promise Stonewall made.

Stonewall also personally paid his respects during Harold's funeral.

Stonewall was not only a great country singer and entertainer, but one of the most down to earth nice person I was able to meet.

I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. In the 60's there was
almost a beer joint om every corner. I could walk into a place, sit down and order a cold one and listen to good old honkey tonk songs on the jukebox. I bet I could sit there for a couple of hours and hear Stonewall Jackson singing "Don't Be Angry" about a half a dozen times. That song of his was on almost every jukebox in town for at least fifteen years. I still, when I play my guitar, sing that song. I also play it on my steel guitar.
I am going to miss old Stonewall. He had a run in with the Opry years ago. They were trying to get rid of him because of his age and he wouldn't have any of that. He stuck around a lot longer and also got a settlement from the Opry. Way to go Stonewall!

We have again lost another wonderful entertainer in Country Music with the passing of Stonewall. He and his generation of Country Music legends made our love of this beautiful music sing across the wide world. It has no borders no hatred, no division, only love, compassion and splendid beauty we should all be proud of.

It is true that most of the great artists who made country music so beautiful are no longer with us but the angels above will benefit from their tremendous ability to entertain. While the Heavenly Host will reap their highly trained gifts of lovely music we can only acknowledge it will never fade or die as it is strongly embedded within the soul of man.

I love Country Music and it was people like Stonewall Jackson who inspired me and many other Scots to feel it was indeed a part of us. Thank you, Stonewall Jackson and others like you.
