After 1 1/2 years with Travis, talking to Jay Dee I have decided to jump ship. I did this for a year and a half before COVID, sold that PP and now did it again to my 70 fatback. If I was doing more rock and swing I might have stayed the course but I am not so lightening the load. If it is good enough for Bobby Rhea…..

Did you keep everything so that a future owner can restore it?

No disrespect Larry, I recognised your name.
It was more a dig at other people who destroy instruments without forethought.
I do play C6 so I went universal to avoid hauling two necks. Nothing to do with age - I just hate inefficiency!

I just started learning C6. Seeing Tommy, Paul and Doug at the Steel Guitar Camp inspired me. Though in my neck of the woods, I doubt I’ll ever get to,play any swing, but we shall see. I think with enough experience, I could adapt it to whatever. Anyways, I do have a deposit on a new MSA which will be a SD-10, lol. :/)

I encourage everyone to spend time on the C neck, I did it for 48 years. Do I like it, yes, do I use it much anymore to warrant changing strings, adjusting, cleaning, tuning, not so much. So for me, today……

The C neck is especially nice for jazz & western swing. It is also very helpful in learning about music theory and how notes and chords are related.
I have found that if the player is not careful, the bottom 3 strings on the C neck can sometimes conflict with the bass player, usually with intonation.
In the heyday of pedal steel, steel player's records often had jazz standards and these were usually done on the C neck. For a while, there hasn't been much call for the C neck and as Buddy demonstrated with his "Oklahoma Stomp" instruction, most of the key C6th voicings an be had on the E9th, but I like the sound of the thicker gauged strings on the C neck.
This is the first thing I notice when playing C6th voicings on the E9th.
For me, this all played into my thinking when I got my Fessenden single neck. The weight factor won out.

That's the great thing about the uni - even if you seldom need the C6 sounds, they're always there at no extra cost in weight.

I finally came to the realization that I'm not 25 years-old anymore. About three years back I cased my beloved D-10 push-pull and put it in the closet. I went from an 80+ pound 8x6 behemoth to a 40+ pound 3x1 bowlin' ball and a 7-pound 6-string Gibson tuned C6 and have not looked back. My back, shoulder, arm, elbow, and wrists approve 100%.
