Wandering around an old second hand "junk shop" awhile back looking for odd stuff. The owner recognized me from playing off and on with various western Swing and Jazz bands here and there. He took me into the back and showed me a box of what he called "guitar parts." Seems like it was a box of old Sho Bud (very old) parts. Well, we haggled around a little bit and I bought it. Mostly for curiosity as I am in no way a steel guitar mechanic. Got it home looked through a bit, lost interest, and put it in the garage. Someone needed a Gumby key head, so I went and grabbed one (there were two) and sold it. Now getting ready for my next move for the fall / winter. I went through the box and the other Gumby is a 9 string. Did Sho Bud ever make a D10 / 9??? Lots of other old parts cables etc. Just stuff I have never seen before. I never played a Sho Bud (Marlen / Fessenden guy here) Some of these parts are strange. Can anyone help me figure out what I have here? I'm lost.

Yes Sho~bud made many configurations through the years; even from the start, Shobud was truly a "Custom" shop; meaning, they would build a steel to the configuration the customer ordered. Yes back in late 50's very early 60's; Steel players were playing 8-string and 9-string and 10-string pedal steels.

Thanks Ricky! Never knew that they made D10 / 9. I doubt that there is anyone out there wanting these changers, rods cross bars ... Likely I'll end up trashing most of it. From the looks of the cabinet and end plates someone at some point tried to convert it to a D10. The 2 wheels and cables confused me....LOL _________________ Melbert 8, Remington S8, Silk 6 string, Rick B6, Tremblay 6 lap steel, Marlen S-10 4&4, Prestige Guild M75 and Artist Award, Benedetto Bravo, Epiphone Century Electar (the real one) and a bunch of old lap steels.... mostly Ricks and Magnatones' |

I had a D9 Fingertip a few years ago. I sold it to Bob Muller who did a restoration, I believe. You can’t tell from this shot about strings but its all I have.

I remember the first time I saw "Big John" Bechtel play at Sunset Park PA, he was playing a D9 Sho~Bud. (That was in 1963 or '64.) A couple of years later, he sent it back to Sho~Bud had it converted to a D10.
Fantastic sound and a great player! |

This is a D-9 Fingertip, Can't be a lot of these around.
Notice how the pedals are located. |

Nice! I feel sorry for the 9 fingered guy that ordered it thinking it was going to be a better fit. |

That's different looking. The Gumby head looks more like a hammer head. Maybe that's what started the design. They needed something to fill up that empty spot??? _________________ Emmons SKH Le Grande, '73 Fender P/J bass, Tick tack bass, Regal high strung, USA Nashville 112. |
