Drummer extraordinaire Kenny Malone has passed away at 83 from Covid. In my experience he was unfailingly creative and a truly great guy to be around; every time I was lucky enough to work with him he brought things up a notch musically and made things more fun and relaxed with his low-key good humor and unique way of looking at the world.
He played on so much great stuff, but I always associate him with helping create the innovative Don Williams sound back in the 70s, along with Lloyd Green and others, of course.

Truly sad. Many folks don't know that Kenny was the original drummer for the Time Jumpers when the band started. _________________ Johnny "Dumplin" Cox

Tragic loss of a genius level musician and really great guy. A big fan of Nashville Sounds baseball. Covid. Not vaccinated because he was "scared". |

I worked with Kenny several times in Nashville during my engineering days. He was a great drummer and super nice guy.
I always thought that he had a built in metronome in his head. He could set a tempo and then take a pause while the band worked out arrangements. When tape rolled the tempo was always where he set it. Amazing drummer.

Great Jazz chops on “Buddies†& Minors Aloud†also. I enjoyed anything he played on. _________________ I thought Nashville was the roughest, but I know I’ve said the same about them all.

Kenny was remarkable. We had this quote of his framed and one resides in all three of our control rooms. Just the best.
