Does anyone know specs for the old stratosphere pickups. How long were they used? Did sho-bud make them in house? Are they the same as other sho-bud single coils, except that they mount different?

I think that Shot's earliest pickups were trying to clone the Stratospheres, but the later Sho Bud single coils are completely different.

Todd Clinesmith was making Stratosphere type pickups before the fire. Don't know if he is again nowadays or not.

The Stratospheres really have a unique sound. I have an early permanent with Stratospheres and a later (still Madison) permanent with Shot-wound Stratosphere-like pickups. They're definitely different sounding guitars, and both still sound very different from later Sho Buds. To my ear, the Stratospheres still sound best.

Thanks David. I have a single neck permanent basket case I’m working on, and it has a silver stratosphere pickup on it. It’s a fairly fragile looking pickup. I’m not sure how it sounds yet.
