I just got a Certano double bender for one of my lap steels. My preferred choice is a 25" scale Georgeboard I already have in dobro G. Want to tune D/G (GBDF#AD). But check out my pics. Certano says "mount 1" or less from the bridge". This is a bit less......but is it too little? Also, is it ok for the butt end of the bender to hang off the steel, as long at the screws are solid?
Thanks!

Alternately, I use my 23" scale Supro. Not in love with drilling holes in it though, I wonder if the string-through pickup will be a problem, and I'm not convinced the D/G tuning will sound as good on a short scale.
Thoughts?

I have mine on one neck of a Double six Supro, about where you show it here. It works very well. Drilling holes happens! It’s useful and Supros are meant to be used so I just did it. _________________ KEVIN MAUL: Airline, Beard, Clinesmith, Donner, Evans, Excel, Fender, Fluger, GFI, Gibson, Hilton, Ibanez, Justice, K+K, Live Strings, MOYO, National, Oahu, Peterson, Quilter, Rickenbacher, Sho~Bud, Supro, TC, Ultimate, VHT, Williams, X-otic, Yamaha, ZKing. |

Thanks Kevin. Is your Supro 23" scale, and what tuning are you using with the Certano?
Also, does the cover of the string-thru pickup get in the way at all? |

I put a Certano bender on a similar Supro, fits nicely just as you've shown. It functions just as it should. I went to lighter strings, not for tone, but to reduce the downward pressure to keep the wrist and palm levers engaged. Trying to learn a few things in the GBDF#AD tuning. Part of my mental process has been push down the levers, and play as though it's G tuning, release the levers to lower the strings. |

Not sure of the scale. The pickup top(actually part of the pickup not just a cover) doesn’t get in the way. I use a straight E tuning. _________________ KEVIN MAUL: Airline, Beard, Clinesmith, Donner, Evans, Excel, Fender, Fluger, GFI, Gibson, Hilton, Ibanez, Justice, K+K, Live Strings, MOYO, National, Oahu, Peterson, Quilter, Rickenbacher, Sho~Bud, Supro, TC, Ultimate, VHT, Williams, X-otic, Yamaha, ZKing. |

no roller at the bridge. the string can only "saw" into the metal at the bridge. not the ideal set up. |

I agree, Bill. I started out with a brass rod for a bridge on my Rondo with a Certano, and the strings cut right into it. I, too, went with lighter gauge strings, which exacerbated the issue, of course. I went to a tungsten carbide rod for the bridge, and it has helped a lot. In the mean time, I'm collecting string barrel ends to try to make a roller bridge a la something I saw that Jim Palenscar did. Should be a challenge, given my limited experience and shop! |

Just heard back from David Certano that my Georgeboard above will work fine. I’ll let you know when it’s done.
Thanks! |
