When I was a kid studying jazz guitar at North Texas State we used to go down to this little jazz club in Dallas called Strictly Taboo. There was a really hot jazz band called High Rise that played there regularly which featured an amazing pedal steel player.

Just wondering is anyone knows who he was?

David, thanks for that. It's great I love Lyle Mays and also have some Pat Coil stuff, Great that they saved those great recordings. Sad that Lyle is gone but he was a great player and is missed sorely.

We lost Larry last year to cancer. He was an early mentor to me in the 70’s and a good friend later in life. Look for a band called Recoil on YouTube. Many of the same players from Highrise. Pat Coil was the leader.

I drove Pat Coil, David Hungate & Dean Parks for a Vince Gill & Amy Grant Christmas tour a few years back. It was great to be in their company and listen to many of the demo’s they played to each other, I remember Pat’s horn arrangements being similar to something Neil Hefti would compose…they were great guys and that was an incredible music adventure for me!
