This style of playing is what brought me to the dance so to speak. The tone, emotion, subtlety etc. Claude Gray walks in the land of the giants of country music.Enjoy!

The solo is appx. 2:05ish. My guess is Dicky Overbey ?
Just outrageously beautiful whoever played it!

Good tune and fine steel player. Haven't a clue as to the player. |

I'm going with the Big E. He plays some of the creamiest subtle fills you will ever hear. They start off strong and just melt back into the song just like butter as the singer comes back in. _________________ Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night. |

after listening to this a few times,I'm switching to the Big "E"myself.I'm pretty sure that's Phil Baugh on guitar. That is his unique way of playing chords backing vocals. |

I played a concert with Claude about 12 to 15 years ago. I just played bass. Walter Haynes played steel and invited me to play the gig. Walter use to produce him when he was young in Nashville. We did it in a converted movie theater in Claude's hometown Henderson, Tx. Claude is a giant of a man. I'm 6'2" and had to look up at him. It seemed like he was about a foot taller than me. I started recalling a lot of his records I heard as a kid when Walter sent me a tape of his song list. He's been doing it about as long as Ray Price and Ray told me himself he shared an apartment in Nashville with Hank Williams Sr. That was long ago. I wish I could have been there when that old country sound was happening. I miss that sound on TV and radio. I just quit listening to new music. |
