I have a reconditioned 1989 OMI dobro with a Beard cone and a Fishman Nashville pickup. Just started doing some home recording with a Tascam DP-24SD Portastudio. Encountered the following –
I notice that when I play the high D string, the volume diminishes significantly compared to the other strings. I’ve tried several ways of recording the dobro – (1) direct into the Portastudio, (2) dobro to Fishman Jerry Douglas Aura to Portastudio, (3) dobro to JD Aura to Fishman Loudbox Mini to Portastudio, and (4) mic’ing the Loudbox into the Portastudio with a Shure SM-57. High D string still loses volume (although less so when mic’ed thru the Loudbox).
Makes me wonder if its an issue with the pickup. Could it be seated incorrectly and need adjustment? Is it just my picking style? Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice much appreciated! |
