.012 on a Push-Pull?

I do. It's a new-to-me guitar and I don't have a lot of hours on it yet but I use .012 on all my steels and there are no problems on this one.

In some 20 years since I went over to 12's I have yet to encounter a down-side. I guess the only negative is that it is a little bit more punishing when it does let go (and in my experience there is absolutely no difference in longevity between 11's & 12's).
And in theory the heavier string takes a tiny bit less changer movement to get to pitch which is a plus, balancing 3 & 6 on a PP.

I completely agree with Jon and Erv. A bit more tension and string mass can make for slightly shorter throw and richer tone. I havenâ€™t used 11s on any of my guitars for more than 20 years.

There are string sets with .012 as the third string. NYXLs have that, with Paul Franklin himself, prefering the heavyer set of strings (.012 vs .011), so I've heard. ...Pat

Iâ€™ve used .012 ga 3rd strings since 1975 with less breakage and better tone than .011 or .0115s.

Iâ€™ve played push-pull forever. And Iâ€™ve used .11 forever. Maybe thereâ€™s a bit of extra body in a .12, but I like the bite of the smaller gauge. Iâ€™ve played a 67 PP since â€˜73... now a â€˜69 and have no issues with broken strings.

I have used Emmons Extra Lively until I couldnâ€™t get them anymore... now Live Steel or Dâ€™Addario.

Been using .012's on my previous Zum and now on my 74 Emmons pp. I use Live Steel strings and have never had one to break. Jeff Newman recommended .012's when I was in one of his classes.

After years of playing PPâ€™s I went to a .012. My concern was about breakage, so I adjusted the raise finger back towards the end plate and left just a few threads into the finger for fine tuning. The finger does not bottom out against the body but I do not care, E-F does not either, nor does sting 3 and or 4 on the C neck if your raise them a half and a whole.

Marty,

In 1970 I started using 012's in Detroit due to focusing in on picking and phrasing dynamics. This caused popping those 010's and 011's more frequently which prompted the switch...In 72 I switched guitars, first to a MSA, then 2 Bud's, then a PP until the Franklin arrived...The 012 is all I ever used since Detroit...The heavier 3rd gives more resistance allowing you to dig in harder with the side of the pick which as you well know is how most get bite out of any string...Check it out, I don't believe you will lose anything.
