Anyone out there have and play one of the chocolate milk colored, crinkle coat finished Mastertone Specials?

The lowest of the low-end lap steels to matriculate from the Gibson factory in Kalamazoo just prior to the curtailment of musical instrument production for the war effort circa 1942-43.

Would be interested to read any comments and impressions of this fairly common old instrument. Either they were made by the boatload, or they are somewhat unpopular nowadays, since there always seems to be a few available in the marketplace. Seemingly as common as the postwar BR-9s and Skylarks, but often available for a fraction of the price.

That P13 pickup is a great sounding one, i had a EH125 with that same setup, also had a Silvertone. Its not super bright like a Fender though, kinda dark with tons of personality. I have a Harmony H50 archtop with a P13 now and its a beautiful thing.

It is indeed; I was pleasantly surprised. I have one of the postwar maroon Kalamazoos, which to my understanding has a similar pickup sans the metal cover, and it doesn't come close to this one. The pickup in this Mastertone is a tad microphonic however, which in my experience is not necessarily such a bad thing. Thanks for your reply, Glenn.
