That is very nice Doug. The best I have ever heard it played on pedal steel.

And it looks like you have that "pick blocking" thing down perfect. I never could manage it and too old to start trying now. hehe

Will be watching for more.

Thanks Bill and Joe. Yes, pick blocking always felt comfortable to me... it's the palm blocking I had to work on. Spent many hours practicing that back in the day. Thanks for your kind comments!

Ditto on previous comments Doug! I appreciate your great song selections and that you don’t try to cram β€œ100 notes in a 50 note sack!” πŸ˜‰πŸ‘

Thanks Carl! I think the average listener responds to a good, clear melody. They can relate to it. Your quote reminds me of something the Big E said here once, about players trying to "stuff 10 pounds of doo-doo into a 5 pound bag"! Jerry Byrd said the same thing in one of his videos. He said don't overplay. Focus on the guy sitting out there at a table with his drink, and play something he understands and can relate to.

Thanks Will. I'm loving this G2 S-10. I've had it for a little over a year now and played it on a lot of gigs, no problems at all.

Hi Doug, Nice touch and tone. You must have taken lessons from Jerry Byrd.

That was indeed a breath of fresh air!

It's uncluttered, cleanly played and a lesson to many of us to treat steel guitar as a musical instrument.

Thanks for sharing, Doug.

Very pretty, Doug. There's a lot of music to be made with two pedals and a couple of knee levers.

Thanks Chuck, I agree that a lot can be played with two pedals and a couple of knee levers. I've always have 4 levers on my guitars until last year when I got the Mullen, with 5 levers. I don't use the vertical lever though (9th string lower) because it feels awkward to me and I don't really need that lever my playing. You know the saying "old dog, new trick". Smile

The number of levers and their necessity is another discussion.

Doug's piece is a well established and much loved 'standard'; had he modified the basic changes of Willie's song with the use of, say, the 9th-lower then something might have been lost.

Having said that, I consider that pull to be vitally important for tackling a more modern pop repertoire.

And I agree with Doug: I too find the vertical to be difficult to use and I assigned my least used change to it (raising the 6th string a whole step).
