I love my Freeloader and even have a backup. It works perfect with every amp I've owned including my Evans SE-200. I just took delivery of a Derrell Stephens built Evans FET 500 yesterday. It was serviced by Derrel in October and has only been played a few hours since and is in perfect working condition. But it will not accept the signal from the Freeloader. No sound at all out of the amp. Knowing very little about electronics, I can only make a guess as to why the amp will not see the Free Loader. The Freeloader has a buffer built in, so I'm guessing the buffer puts out a low Z signal and the amp circuitry isn't designed to see the low Z signal. Does anybody have any thoughts?

Problem solved with ten cents worth of parts. The 9 bolt battery inside has a space between the end of the battery and the backing plate. This space is required so you have room to slide the battery to make it connect. The batteries on both units had slid back, disconnecting them. The solution was to just slide a nickel between the battery and the backing plate in both devices so the battery can't move. This probably won't be a problem for anybody else, unless you have four German Shepard puppies running loose knocking them off your guitar and letting them hit the floor. Anybody need any beautiful German Shepard puppies?

That's a real puzzler.

My 1985 Evans and my FreeLoader work very well together.

You might want to reach out to Derrell.

Thanks for the update; but, now you're out ten cents.

Put little folded paper shims in the FreeLoaders and put the nickels back in your pocket.

Why, yes. I'm a cheapskate. Why do you ask?

Lee, parts were not expensive, it was the labor that ate me up. I have a minimum $60.00 service charge. My first thought was a piece of paper folded up, but I didn't want to be accused of cutting corners and using cheap parts. Brad builds everything with top quality parts. I thought about using a couple of pennys, but I wanted to maintain Brad's reputation and use the more expensive nickels. It will increase the resale value by five cents too

I'm hearing of this more often lately, a dropped FreeLoader can knock the battery out of its holder inside, sometimes barely touching causing a frustrating intermittence. My current solution is to put a little 1" piece of weatherstrip foam on the back plate so it pushes on the battery when the thing is assembled, that's enough to keep the battery in place even with a jolt.

And I think George clarified, it wasn't that the FreeLoader can't drive the Evans, it's that the battery came loose inside the FreeLoader.

Nice to hear Derrell is helping keep his babies going. Great amps and a great guy.

Yep. This happened a couple of years ago. Obviously frustrating, trying to troubleshoot it during setup for a gig. Same solution....a small piece of spongy foam.
I SO MUCH prefer this battery mount to a standard flimsy wire & plug type of battery clip. No contest.
