Danny Kuaana worked with a lot of the big Hawaiian bands in the 30s and 40s and later with Jerry Byrd. The Capitol Transcriptions on YouTube are of him with his own band including Bernie Kaai playing some tasty steel guitar. This is real Hawaiian music with a Swing sensibility.
I have an old book of Danny's compositions with some Bernie Kaai. Anyone interested in working up some of Danny's music can download the scans of the 1946 book via my Google Drive.

Anyone know if this is indeed Danny Kuaana on the Bernie Kaai album? |
Mannie Klein, trumpet;
Frank Sabatella, piano;
Paul Page, celeste;
Bernie Kaai, steel;
Harry Baty, guitar;
Freckles Lyons, guitar;
Danny Kuaana, ukulele;
Al McIntire, bass;
Danny is the falsetto lead on Hawaiian Song Of Love and is part of the band chorus on the other vocals. Not sure if he is the lead on the non-falsetto portions.
Recorded in New York, 1947. |
