I haven't heard before or since, the kind of cutting, thunderous bass sound found on "Before You Kill Us All" from the 1994 "This Is Me" album by Randy Travis.

Allmusic.com credits David Hungate on bass. Any idea what kind of effects or rig that would produce this sound? He hits a low D so I assume he's playing a 5-string.

Allmusic also credits 3 steel players on the album: Paul Franklin, Doyle Grisham and Kayton Roberts (!).

No idea, Frank. Maybe a five-string.
