I searched this first before posting, just received my practice Rogue lap steel a couple days ago. The pickup wobbles sideways and end to end. The screws just turn loosely into the cover plate. Also, I have ordered new strings that should arrive in a couple days. Should I remove the cover plate when I re string it and see why the pickup is wobbly or is it common for them to move around like that? I have a just few days left if I should return it to Musicians Friend, or call them? Thank you all for any suggestions or thoughts. I am brand new to steel. (Not sure I can get a photo showing all the ways it wobbles. ) _________________ Beginner

best to you in your new interest in the lap steel guitar.
the instrument you purchased is a very inexpensive guitar. the movement of the pickup in the housing is not surprising and certainly nothing to be concerned with. take the housing off...see how its mounted. beef up the springs if they are used. put a piece of foam under the pickup. that will limit the movement. if the pickup is suspended with a screw on each end and springs, you will never be able to totally limit its movement unless you eliminate its suspension and therefore its ability to be adjusted up and down easily with two screws.
while you are playing the guitar, the pickup wont move, so just play it. dont worry about it. |
