As usual, I'm experimenting with amps. Fun for me and if I don't like it I sell.
FENDER Tone Master Twin reverb w/ZOOM pedal for reverb effect (I don't like the FENDER reverb). Faster tune and then slower.

| Ron, I have to say it sounds great. For me the Tonemaster Twin just doesn't work. I tried a Boss RV3 and it's much better but still something in the tone that lacks the warmth or depth I love. The direct out sounds good from it. |

Larry, The judgment is still out for me. I find playing an amp in your practice room never sounds the same when you go out and play it live. this weekend I’ll be playing live so will check it out then and I’ll report back whether I keep it or not. |

| Ron, Have you tried much recording direct with that using the IRs with modeled mic placement? Just curious. It sounds great. I do perceive some room acoustics so was doubting if these were done direct. I've never been good at micing steel and getting what I'm after recorded. Am wondering if the newer tech would take care of that. |

After having done a number of steel gigs with my TM Twin.
I settled in to dialing back the power attenuator so the volume could be set at least to four.
Very happy with this tone for now. I also run a blackbox in front of it. The line out is very good.
I have also done some no amp gigs plugging direct to the new Bose L1 Model 2 PA system. Not bad. Super light weight.

Interesting Ken. I tried my black box with mine and didn’t notice any difference. I did notice a difference using a black box with my Quilter 201ToneBlock amp, but not with the Twin.
I’ll have to try again and pay more attention to the subtleties.

I guess I use the blackbox sort of automatically..
Getting the volume up was the main thing for me.
Gain staging I guess.
I will test without the blackbox this weekend.
It is nice to eliminate plugging in anything we can.

Not really. The SPARK amp that I experiment with, I did try direct recording with that and it worked pretty well. I haven’t done anything with the twin yet that way. What you hear in my samples are just with a cell phone in front of the amp. |
