Yesterday, Jan 25th, my old pal Speedy would have been 96, but passed away in 2003. He was my original steel guitar hero in the 1950s when I first heard the records he made with Jimmy Bryant. Little did I know then that when we both got older that we would become great friends. Speedy wrote the liner notes on my first CD. I have many happy memories of staying at his home and enjoying his and Mary’s home made soup. I sat at the foot of his easy chair into the wee hours listening to him. I miss you Pal, Rest In Peace.

I miss the long phone talks and at the steel shows with Speedy. I had the pleasure of playing bass for him back in the late 50s in Chicago at a guitar show, and were friends ever since. Happy Birthday my friend. Miss you. Like Chuck said, The God Father of steel guitar.
