I have a 1975 and 1976. This one looks like previous to that? Also, previous of Super Sustain. Maybe 1974. I think the first two numbers are floor and knee levers. 4 floors and no knee levers? I bought my 1976 new and it had 5 and 2. 5 floors and 2 knees. First two numbers on the serial number is 52. The last two digits are the production numbers which requires factory reference. There's a forum member that acquired that list after Maurice passed away. Hopefully he will respond.

I'd start with flowers and a nice dinner.

Over the last few years I've sold two MSA single 12's. The one you posted has a few more pedals & knee's. If this guitar is in good working order I'd say $1,500. to $2,000. might be a reasonable value. Start pricing at what you really want to get because you can always go lower but rarely, if ever, go higher

Note that the neck in this one extends all the way to the pickup. MSA started making aluminum(?) pickup wells around 1975 or 6, so this has to be earlier than that.

Good observance Mike. Also, all four knee levers are later. I have a 1975 and a 1976 , both U-12's) and both have black anodized knees and aluminum pickup wells.
I bought a new MSA D-10 in 72 or 73 and it still had the formica and narrow pickups. I'm guessing this one is a 74.

I will add some more for thought.

This is my MSA Driftwood White Formica S10 4X4 Serial 1C2921. I contacted Mr. Anderson several years ago. By his records he said, " It was born July 9th, 1974". This guitar has a 12 string key head, The 2 flats at the roller nut is not drilled for tuners. The Tone and Volume controls have chrome plated knobs. The hole to the right of the tone and Vol. is covered with a chrome cap. It has a cutout in the neck for the pickup and the neck extends to the changer mounting blocks.
The pad is attached with Vel-Cro so no holes drilled in the guitar.

My guess is possibly 1975-probably 1976. My reasoning is MSA would have had to make 2000 + in a year to reach a 4000 serial number

My 1975 12 string #4505 was made April 1975. Green birdseye maple, aluminum pickup pocket.

My 1976 12 string is #5228. I know that it's an early 1976. It's identical to the 1975 except it's brown birdseye maple.

Judging from some of the dated guitars on this post, yours would most likely be a 1974. Possibly a late 1973. I'm not sure which year MSA transitioned from formica to clear finished wood and wider pickup? Probably transitioned 1973 or 1974?
