My dad, Gary Eischen, is selling his Zum. Hasn't been played in 20 years. I set it up to dust it off and get specs. I have a local country band member coming to look at it. I haven't advertised yet and want to make sure I'm getting this right. Y'all seem to know your stuff on this forum. The serial number indicates single body/neck, 12 string, 4 pedal, 5 knee levers, and dated 1989. I cannot for the life of me figure out what model this is. Any of you out there have an idea? Thank you. |

It's a top of the line professional S12 model, s for single neck on a single body, 12 for the 12 strings.
If it had 7 or 8 pedals it would be called an S12U, U for Universal set up.
The 4 pedal rods are not hooked up, but I assume they are there somewhere.
Encore models are way more recent. No Encores were built in 1989. |

Thank you Jerry. Yes, I have the rods but didn't hook them up. I appreciate your response. I want to treat this sell with the utmost respect as it should be. Again, thank you~ Deb |

You're quite welcome.
For future reference:
S10....single 10 string neck on a single body.
SD10...single 10 string neck on a double body.
D10....two 10 string necks on a double body.
Student guitars are usually designated simply by Student.
Zum's current entry level guitar is the Stage One.
The uprgraded version is the Encore.
Both these models are ZumSteel licensed and built by Doug Earnest and the only models in current production.
They are different from the professional models like yours that were built by the originator and builder of the ZumSteel brand, Bruce Zumsteg. |

Encore is only made as an S-10 so the 12 strings is enough of a give-away. As is the date, as mentioned above. The tuning would be called "extended E9" (assuming it is 'normal' and not something entirely personally unique....something that happens a lot in our community of stubborn thinkers).
If you sell it here, multiple photos including pics of the underside will help a lot.
Zums are highly respected and you should have little difficulty moving it. Good luck. |
