The clip light comes on steady, the volume drops off and it distorts badly on my Nashville 400 after a few minutes of playing. This happens with any level of gain or pregain. I don't play loud, so it's not being over driven.

I've had the amp out of the cabinet and looked at every component for broken wires, loose connections, broken solder joint, etc. I've ohm'd out the reverb tank, cable and connector and cleaned the posts. The connection is real tight.

I can reach around and smack it on the top and the amp works again, but only for a few minutes. Of course, I don't want to make a habit of that.

Is there something else I can check or is it time to send it in. And where can I send it?

Thanks.

You might try cleaning all the jacks including those on the rear. Any jack that goes unused for an extended time will develop oxidation which impairs the signal path. 'Deoxit' lube and cleaner (green can I believe) works really well, simply spray some on a 1/4" guitar cord and insert and withdraw it four or five times to help remove any build up. If that does not solve your problem, another solution is remove the chassis and clean the jacks with a small wire brush sprayed with "Deoxit'.

...and if that don't work...there's a cable between the reverb tank and the bottom of the chassis...it has a"Molex"plastic plug on the chassis end...spray"DeOxit"
or something comparable in there and do your best to
clean it out...clean the prongs it plugs into...if it's loose, take a jeweler's screwdriver and tighten the metal
pieces in the plastic plug...not too much...these things
are hard to get off and back on,but you'll get to coin some new"phrases"...I've had probably a dozen NV400s in
the last 30 years, and every time I've had trouble with one,it was the Molex cable...it got to where I'd just
take the reverb tank out and use a pedal to keep from having this problem...hope this helps...

See if Don Warner is still in business in Raytown. Heck of a tech, honest and fair and ridiculously fast.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

Dave ..... I haven't tried that, I will.

Steve ..... I've done all that, didn't help.

Doug ..... I had heard Don retired, but I'll check on him. He's done several repairs for me over the years and you're right, he's a heck of a tech.

Thanks again.

Been a while since I've been inside a NV400 but I think there are Molex connectors inside. Reseat (unplug then plug back in) all connectors. A dirty pot can also do this.

I heard a rumor (but it was on the internet so I'm sure it's true) that Peavey Meridian wasn't doing work except warranty now?? That's really too bad if true, their shop was affordable and fast.
