Is there any difference between brands, in terms of quality, function, specs? Given a 500K pot, what are critical specs (tolerance)? I'm about to install on my first build.

Alpha
Dunlop
CTS
Emerson
EMG
Bournes
unnamed

How does "Emerson Pro CTS" fit into this scheme?

Thanks a heap,

I just use CTS, Brass shaft as opposed to the aluminium on the Alphas. The Emerson CTS are ridiculously expensive here in Australia but may be more accessible in the USA. Makes no real difference wide open but the taper on one brand may suit you better if you use volume or tone adjustments regularly

Pot with conductive plastic tracks are far superior to carbon track pots. They are now pretty common every where.
