I am looking to buy a Lollar String Through Pup. When I went to order it, it asked you to specify single conductor or 4 conductor. Can anyone explain what this means? I bought one 3 years ago and I don't think there was an option like that?

Thanks in advance for some info.

Hmmm...on a string-through it isn't obvious, like it is on a humbucker...but I've had very good luck going back to the source - they respond quickly and completely...

typically a 4 conductor allows additional tonal options, coil tap, etc,,, I would go this route as it makes any guitar more flexible..

The purpose of having the four coil leads available to the end user is so that you can wire the pickup with custom switching to get several different tones from one pickup.

Single coil pickups may also have multiple leads, called "taps." By utilizing the coil tap leads and some custom switching, you can reduce the impedance of the pickup by bypassing some of the coil windings, for a cleaner or brighter tone. Again, it's to get more than one tone from a single pickup.
