Had a great time picking with Jimmy Lester & his Band " Santa Fe Stage ". But, the fun part was backing up " Freddy Fender,Jr ". What a crazy feeling after doing this with the real " Freddy Fender " (Baldemar G.Huerta) years ago.I must be dreaming.I know that San Benito,Texas is proud of (Freddy Fender) him.Remember when he was picked up in Baton Rouge,Louisiana on a marijuana possession and got charge and sentenced to three yeras in prison. That was in May of 1960.It was Huey P. Meaux who put Freddy Fender back on the map with " Before The Next Teardrop Falls " on Crazy Cajun Records.Country Music was healthy in the roots of traditional young singers like Reba McEntire,Gene Watson,George Strait & John Anderson. I remember Leo Fender giving " Freddy Fender " a custom - made Guitar.Freddy Cherish that instrument.RIP my good friend. Uncle = Leo J.Eiffert,Jr. |

That's not Freddy Fender's son. The estate sued him. He had his name officially changed to Freddy Fender, Jr. and I think the court tossed the suit. Wife Angie was pissed. |

I knew he wasn't Freddy Fender's son. But, like the way court room politics works. He got away with it because Freddy Fender real last name was not Fender. Think about it. Like me here aka SwampWater Fox. I miss the real old friend Freddy Fender with his Wasted days. |

Ole friend Baldemar Huerta. I did an interview with him in Las Vegas many years ago for Texas Proud Magazine. I also played Drums with him a few times in my drumming career.I truly under stood his way of life that he created by his own style as a musician Artist & as a songwriter. RIP The real Freddy Fender. |

San Benito is about a 45 minute drive from here.
I attended the old San Benito High School my freshman year, 1967-68.
From the freeway, you can see his smiling face on the water tower.

Thanks for that link, Lee,
I once way driving next to Freddie's bus coming into Memphis on my long drive from Lubbock back to my home in NJ. That would have been around 1981-2. _________________ Regards, Craig
