Howdy all you fellow pickers!
Just wanted to let you know that I have written an Android application to practice standard notation on a pedal steel guitar fretboard. At the moment there are two E9 copedents available. Actually, I am currently finalizing a new version of the app, adding Buddy Emmons C6 copedent to the app.
Originally I made this application just for my own learning. I play standard electric guitar on a big band, and I am huge fan of jazz music. Having to know all those chords and standard notation on pedal steel guitar fretboard just feels necessary. It is not an easy task!
The android tablet application has helped me a lot to locate those notes on the fretboard.
You can find the application from the Google Play store "Pedal Steel Game", or: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?hl=en&id=com.jms.musasofta
Here is a video of the gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0Zayx_x81c&t=22s
Also, if you would like to have some particular copedent implemented to the app, let me know.
And yes... I know... the best way to learn how to play pedal steel guitar is to sit and play the darn thing. But sometimes it is just more fun to play a game.
Greetings from Finland!

Well that's kinda cool. Took me a minute to figure out what was going on until I read the description under the video. I checked out some of your guitar videos as well. Good stuff. |

Yup, it might be little confusing at the beginning, but it is quite a lot of fun when you got it.
But the main thing is, after some play time, you locate those standard notation notes on the fretboard easier and faster.

Here is a short description of the game play:
After you have hit “start” in the game mode selector dialog, the application will randomly give you a note on standard notation. Your task is to move the bar (tap either side of the bar) and hit the pedals & levers (buttons). Then from the right end of the fretboard select the number of the string you would play the note. If the note is correct you can see an updated score, and after few correct notes you can see on the line chart how fast you play. Play as many notes as you wish and when you are done hit stop.
Then… go see your stats from the two buttons “range stats” and “SIP stats” (stay in position). Here you can see if you need to practice more on some particular position(s) or if you’re not using some pedal(s) efficiently be your own teacher!
If you get stuck with a note simply hit the new note button.
If you do nothing for one minute the game will stop without saving your results to the statistics.

Hi.
Just released a new version of the Pedal Steel Game. In the version 2 there is Buddy Emmons C6 copedent to play with. Now the copedent is visible during playing, in case there is room for it in your device screen.
