Probably not the right place for this, but I have a friend that got a 1935 Double neck 8 strings Gibson console grand he asked what it is worth, any thoughts? |

I don't think Gibson made any consoles prior to 1938. Player grade post WWII D8 models seem to run around $900-$1500 depending on condition. Prewar models may be worth more than that to a collector, depending on what your friend actually has. Pictures would help narrow it down. |

The A.R. Duchossoir’s book “Gibson Electric Steel Guitars” has 2 pages of ‘special order’ double neck examples, starting in 1936. (Pp 54 & 55). There’s even a Spanish neck/Hawaiian DN that predates the “Guit Steel” of Junior Brown’s renown.. by decades! Most customers of these back then, were in Orchestra settings, and enjoyed ‘Famous names’ like Alvino Rey. Even his DN is listed as 1936, with a more radical DN (2 ea. aluminum) one made in 1937; both were factory customs. A good reference book if you hanker toward early Gib’s. |
