Lovely National Tricone 1929 style 2.
I picked this up off the forum recently, and I just am more an electric player than a dobro player!
It's been modified for 7 string with a banjo tuner on the headstock. I don't know much about the history of the modification, but the tuner is a 20s/30s era tuner.
Originally the 7 strings were strung through the original 6 string end piece. I bought a 7 string end piece from National(still to be installed though!), they had 1 or 2 left over from some customs they built.
Marc Schoenberger had also worked on this, he fixed up the resonator cones, and also reworked the nut to be a proper 7 string nut(both neck and saddle).
It has a Schatten passive piezo pick up, and I additionally bought a national slimline(the newer version), and also a switchcraft female jack so instead of having to drill the hole into the Tricone you can place it elsewhere. I also bought some (I think diaddaro) strap/neck piece cable holder, so one can easily mount it on the end piece. I still have not installed the pick up yet. To make the install a little nicer I found some good quality cable holders that you can putty or use 3m double sided tape to route the cable.
It comes with a Blue Heron case, which is pretty nice, and a meat hook like holder so if you want to hang it up, you can hang it up with one of the loops.
Last but not least, it comes with a 6 string zero glide nut(if you wish to convert it back to 6 string).
It's really a great piece. It sure is a looker, a sure beauty. The style 2 design is really fantastic. I believe this might have been one of the last ones made while the Dopyera brothers were still working in the factory. The solder connections are really well done, and there seems no sign of separation.
Trades I'm looking for:
Gibson EH 275, maybe a pedal steel, would love an ultratone with PAF ... might be into other stuff as well! like an EH 185 with CC pick up.
Could very well be into a Duesenberg!!! Preferring the fairytale...
Let me know if interested, I'll put this up here for trade for a bit, and if there isn't much interest, I'll post it for sale on reverb or somewhere else.
Thanks for the look!
