I'm not sure what you call the part of the guitar where the tuners attach on a steel guitar...but anyway, for builders, is there much significant difference between a metal or wooden head on the guitar? For an 8-10 string lap steel? I think in the Bigsby book I see he used both. It seems pretty reasonable to me if you're gluing maple to maple, the tuner pan will be plenty secure to hold up to string tension. But I see plenty of steel too.

Is there any consensus of thought on this? More sustain for metal?
