I would like to have silk-screened fretboards made for my personal build. Here's what I need help with:
-Locating a good company to make it.
-Which program should I use for design?
-Are there any special considerations I need to make while designing?
I'd like it to be printed on thin sheet metal, but this isn't a requirement.
If anyone has done this and is willing to help, I'd appreciate any direction I can get. I have experience in AutoCAD.
Thanks! |

Hi Dave,
Regarding design, you might want to use vector based software (like Adobe Illustrator) for the artwork/design, which would allow any size adjustments to be pinpoint accurate.
I discovered this when designing faceplates for some tube amplifiers I built.
A local trophy shop requested vector based files to make the faceplates.

I think Jim Palenscar in South Calif. can do laser cut fretboards. Look here..

Autocad will work fine....just save the file as a DXF. StewMac has a great fret distance calculator to save you from the head hurting math. |

Keep in mind that if you use reflective material it can make it so the steel player can't see a freakin thing except a big red blotch when they use spotlights for solos on big stages. _________________ Bob |

I made an autocad script file that automatically drew a trapezoid shaped fret board upon entering a few variables like width at nut, width at changer, scale length, and line width. This was so long ago it's saved on a 10" floppy. If I can find the file and retreive it I'll pass it along. |

I’ve made some at my friend’s T-shirt warehouse/shop....but this is the best! Andy DuPaul (from this forum) made this for me for an EXCEL I rebuilt and customized..it’s 1/32” thick....great quality...
