Hey, fellers!

I'm looking for new tuners for my '38 B7. Any suggestions? I was looking at Stew Mac, but it only confused me!

There are single tuners, but I'm looking for a 4 in-line and 3 in-line so I don'y have to drill into the bakelite.

Aloha, Mark

On my 1935 B6, I used the Grover Sta-tite from Stew Mac. They are fairly close to the original, and a lot smoother.

Thanks. Won’t that require drilling a lot of holes? I worry about cracking the Bakelite. Any in-line suggestions?

Its some years ago now, but as I recall, some of the holes lined up. I filled some holes with epoxy dyed black, and where I drilled new holes I was careful to make them full depth of the screw - unlike what one might do with wood.

I’m going to look for in-line tuners. I don’t much mess with drills and epoxy— thanks!!

Pretty sure nobody sells a 4 & 3 inline set. Mandolin tuner posts are probably going to be too close. Check out the spacing on the 12-string relic tuners that Stew Mac sells. You can cut a couple tuners off the end if they're the right spacing. I wound up using Grover 18:1 tuners on both my 7-string EH-150 and my bakelite Academy guitars. I did have to do grinding on some of the tabs and drill a couple new screw holes to make them work though. And yes, drilling into bakelite is tricky. You need to be sure that the hole is small enough for the screw to cut threads but not too tight or you'll snap the screw off. Then you're, well, screwed.

Maybe if you post front, back and sideview pictures of the headstock it would help.

You can always check out a set of mandolin tuners for the 4 side and if they work you are in business the 3 tuners as you know are easily found.

Hey, Tom! The 4 side works fine. I'm just trying to find a 3 with those metal tuner buttons. So far, no luck!
