Japanese American soldiers of the 442nd Combat Team at dance, Camp Shelby, Mississippi, with Japanese American girls from Jerome and Rohwer Relocation Center in Arkansas: Private Harry Hamada doing hula dance and his guitar-ukulele orchestra. 1943. National lap steel.

Possibly nisei from Hawaii...that was the same unit that Sen Daniel Inouye served in.

String-through pickup and multi-color fretboard; that National couldn't have been more than a year or two old in 1943.

Nic, I believe you’re correct. The unit whose motto was “Go for Broke.”
