Does anyone know,,or ever seen a changer mechanism like this,,,and how could it possibly work??

| Hey Marty,,,I'm looking for answers,,,not more questions,,,LOL!!! Actually it was the mechanism that was on the guitar I'm rebuilding. It wasn't rodded up so I don't know how it worked,, but it had definitely been used over the years,,it has seen some wear. I tore it down before I bothered to determine how it worked since I had my own 3/3 mechanism in mind,,but now I'm very curious as to what it was and how it worked. |

It looks like a halfway house between a Kline mechanism and a modern type. The finger portion is just like the ones I made when I copied a Kline changer for my home built guitar.

Lee,,that's the whole finger assembly as it was on the guitar, other than the springs and stop.
Ian,,I've played/owned/rebuilt Klines for 30 years,,,I don't see anything resembling a Kline?
First time in over 20 years I've posted a question on the forum that I didn't get a knowledgeable answer,,,surely someone knows??? |

| The pop rivet has failed and a piece is missing. You can see a faint outline of where the missing piece may have been. That piece is probably still on the other changer fingers or the steels changer would likely be unusable. JMO |

Thanks Dick,,,but no, this is actually just one of the 12 fingers exactly as it was on the shaft. Not only that, but along with the purchase of the guitar, I got about 15-20 lbs of parts (look like a lot of pull/release parts) in which a lot of individual parts like the ones on this finger was included

Of course I have since done a lot of modification,,i.e. converted to keyless, eliminated about 7 lbs of solid metal neck etc

| Yes Dick,,thanks for that,,that's what I was asking for. I'm starting to see something here,,the way that finger is broken, there would have had to be a pivot point stop,,,maybe that's what the top row of screws were??? |

| Yes Jim,,that's what I'm thinking,,like I said, the row of screws at the top may have served that purpose,,instead of a plate,,individual stops (screws) for whatever reason??? |

Sonny, I know you're a Kline expert. When I say I copied the changer, what I meant was I copied the principle from some diagrams that Winnie Winston posted years back.
These are my efforts - maybe you can see the resemblance
This is the set of 12 prior to assembly - nothing like the changer you're faced with now, obviously

Yes Jim,,you won the tootsie roll!!! Looks like we both became aware of the pivot point about the same time. I made a mock up as Johnie suggested and it all worked ,,very smooth I might add,,wish I'd paid more attention to the way it came apart.
Ian,,I'd like to see one of those assemblies positioned the way it would actually work. But no, I'm no expert by any means,,,Paul Redmond is the expert,,LOL |

That looks like the same basic idea as a BMI finger. There is a steel stop plate screwed to the end plate at the top that the the raise finger pushes against.

This was my test jig. It doesn't look like a Kline but it works like a Kline.
