I'm another newbie and just recently joined the forum. At 68 years old I figure it's never too late to learn and what better time than now? I also just bought a Sierra Royalty and so far I'm very happy with it - looking forward to the experience.

I started a year and a half ago at 63, with a Sierra guitar. It has been a great guitar so far. Good luck.

Thanks - the Sierra is built like a tank and I think it is a great piece of engineering. Maybe I should have looked for something a little lighter but I'm very happy with the build quality and sound.

I have played guitar for many years along with lap steel and square neck resonator (more recently) so I'm not starting completely from square one. A lot of the bar skills are transferable but I have to fight the habit of lifting the bar and playing the steel like a dobro.

Thanks Marc - I don't think I can truly call myself a "steel player" yet but I'm working on it. Do you know of any other local players and a knowledgeable repair/setup person? It would be nice to be part of a local network if one exists.
