friend of mine does not play steel, but inherited this nice national D8. he plays standard guitar.

this is about as simple a tuning as i could come up with for him. an E chord with a 7 and a 9 on top.

he can easily play some chords and have fun.

There’s also the 8 string G6 EGBDEGBD g major x2, G6 x2, Em x2, Em7 x2
