I went to that convention and had the privilege of having lunch with Jerry Byrd, the master of the slant. Jerry Fessenden invited me along. That's a treat I'll never forget. Tx Jerrys.

I'm paying close attention to his slant bar technique. Zero wrist movement. Pivots on the tip of the index finger. Pinky splayed out about 2" at all times...

I remember it well, I sat on the floor with lots of others right in front of the stage. Now Jerry was no Rock n Roller and he played softly not loud at all and to my dismay the guy sitting next to me started talking to his friend, and not about Jerry. This guy would not shut up and I finally quietly told him to stop talking, and he said "in your dreams". Usually the fans at the conventions were very well mannered and he did finally stop talking. Jerry wasn't at the peak of his abilities but it was a historic show none the less. Him and Speedy ribbing each other was mighty cool also.
