Will easing the tension on My sixth string raise make the pedal feel lighter? assuming the string returns to pitch.
When operating My B pedal without using an amp there is a "creaking" noise just before it reaches the stop.I have lubricated the moving parts (crosshaft and linage etc)

The return spring shouldn't move when you raise, so adjusting it won't ease your problem but it might create one.

If the creak isn't being detected by the pickup then I wouldn't be too concerned (except for the annoyance factor).

Make sure the pedal pivot is lubricated, and make sure that the pedal bar brackets are tight. I once had an elusive noise that seemed to be coming from underneath the guitar, and it turned out to be a loose bracket on the pedal bar. Winking

Also, as a general practice, make sure that the return spring end is oiled where it connects to the finger, and that the guitar isn't over-tuned.

Reach under and apply pressure up and down on the pull rod for 6 at the changer. If that stops it, the rod is shifting in the scissor hole. Putting a slight bend up or down might quiet it.

The return spring has nothing to do with the feel of the raise unless it is way out of adjustment and is causing the lower to pull away from the neutral plate and you are fighting the lower too.

Thanks everyone for Your help. I appear to have fixed the annoyance and it may be interesting to You to know. I removed the pedal rod and upon inspection the inside part of the "hook" which connects to the link was quite uneven and looked like hardened crud which could have been from applying some wrong type lubrication, I cleaned the hook using smooth emery paper and then applied a drop of teflon lube.. So far so good.
Best regards
Billy
