I was recording a demo of an original tune and just wanted to blow off some steam and improvise a few choruses. This is where I feel most in my element--bluesy rock with some nice changes. Lap steel chords and solo, a little synth, and some drum loops. I've kind of made it my mission now to just record some original music, of which I have a bunch.
This is my Clinesmith cast aluminum Joaquin on both tracks.

Nice. To my ear, it’s got a Weather Report kind of thing going on. _________________ A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first. |

I will admit Weather Report and Steps Ahead as some of my biggest influences but I never made a connection with that here.
I think most steel players don’t really dig where I’m going because it is definitely moving more towards a guitar and keyboard kind of thing, less steel-like. I can handle that, I’m just following what my heart tells me to. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

I like it very much, Mike. I was always into the jazz-funk-rock whatever you want to label it. It's refreshing to hear lap steel in this context instead of the traditional music it is normally associated with (which I like very much as well). I like to hear those unexpected chord changes. I don't always understand what is going on technically, but my brain likes it. |
