Question for a non member friend. He has an Evans 500 later model solid state has has only a buzz or more like static he say anytime it is on. With volumes both off or on, reverb on or off, same noise. No guitar amplication at all. No ideas would be appreciated. No good repair shops close by. Ken

Definitely call Evans and talk to Scot. He is very good to talk to and helpful whether or not you are the original owner. He can talk you through problems.

+1 on calling Scot He is a one man show and may be hard to catch. If you go to Evens web sight and email him through the Contact tab he will call you back.

Good Luck
Barry

2nd to calling Scott. He is the best in answering any questions regarding Evans, even if you didn't buy it from him.

Very reliable, great sounding amps. I had an FET 500 I used for over 20 years, trouble free. My current amp is an SE-200 with an Eminence eps 15-C speaker. Best sounding amp I've ever owned in over 50 years of playing, and I've owned a dozen different steel amps.

The power amp and pre amp plug together with a terminal strip. The contacts get corrosion and need to be cleaned. That is most likely the problem. You can pull the chassis and pull either the power amp or preamp and use some good cleaner in the terminal strip. I believe I remember the pre amp is easier to take out once the knobs are removed. If the amp has an effects loop the jacks can get dirty inside and cause the same problem. You can check that by plugging a cable into the effects in and the other end into the effects out and see if that stops the noise. You mentioned later model so I think it would have the effects loop. That is where I would start.

Ken, I am having the same problem finding parts for an old Evans Hybrid amp. Scott wasn't able to help me. He hasn't owned the company long enough to have parts for any of the older models. Great guy, though! Have you tried that small amp he makes? It will surprise you...
