Hi All
As part of my ongoing electronica-steel guitar project (which is bound to make me a small fortune...and I mean small), here's another track from what one day will be a full-blown electronica album. Regardless of the music (which you can love, like or hate) I think this recording relates to a thread on the British Steelies Society on what amps people are using. This is my Traynor YCV40 valve combo which is barely used by steel players but sounds pretty funky to my (highly prejudiced) ears, although it might not cut it in a live setting. It is a pretty impressive 40 watts though. Anyway...

Thanks for listening

I'm enjoying these as well, Gary. The drummer in a jump blues band I'm in is into making music with sequencers and wants me to join him on sax and lap steel. Very different from our regular gig music. Could be fun! |

Thanks Bill, much appreciated. Yes, I'm sure you'll have fun taking the steel into that terrain. I've been trying for ages to get my old friend (a world-class sax player) over to do some sax/steel duo recordings. Being a working musicians with zero gigs thanks to the dreaded COVID, I doubt he can even afford the train fare at the moment (it really is tragic) but hopefully soon. I'm sure the steel forum can't wait!!
Thanks again, it's great to know that someone out there is tuning in every now and again.

Thanks Bill and Nic...much appreciated. More to come soon, I am in fact in a bit of a groove myself at the moment, so it's nice to have a few listeners to keep my solitary hours of playing meaningful.

Thanks to all of you who have replied...much appreciated
For those who might have missed my other post, here are the links to 2 videos where I'm 'rehearsing' for the final recording that you've heard. Given they're recorded on my camera, the sound is not as good, but as they're preparatory, they're looser and better in places (also worse in places too, but hey!)

These are great. They king of remind me of the Greyboy Allstars and that late 90s acid jazz groove. |

Wow, that is such a cool sound! A new fan here.
Just curious, from a compositional standpoint, it sounds very improvised and spur of the moment, which I’m sure is due to your ability and artistry, but...how much of the steel playing actually is improvised? |
