Looking for one of these. Prefer red over gray.

No, I'm looking for the lap steel. I have a 6-string like this and I love it. My 8-string Sierra is too heavy for my lap.

Thanks for responding.

Doesn't have to be red or in great condition, as long as it's playable.

b0b, I am kind of a geek when it comes to the Rickenbacker SW and DW models, (Single Wood and Double Wood, I believe). As far as I know they maybe made around 300 SW-8, so that's why you don't see them that often. The photos are of mine made in 1954. By 1955 they had updated it a bit with the newer knobs, control plate, stamped tuner pan with plain cover and the new logo on metal plate as in your photo. The new(at the time)stencil logo on front has almost completely worn off this one from handling over the years, probably why they changed to metal logo plates. I have a list of serial numbers I have been able to put together I can send you if interested. The SW and DW were the first Rickenbacker instruments with this new logo that is used to this day. I am not selling this one unless crazy money is involved but just thought you might find this interesting

Mark - I notice that the one in the picture I posted has a different kind of bridge from the one you posted. Which came first?

b0b,
I believe the model you are looking for is a prior model.
The model you're looking for has the strings through the body.
Similar arrangements as with the different models of the bakelite Ricks.

That is correct, Erv. My 6-string has strings through the body, and I love the tone of it. I'd like to have that tone (and appearance!) on an 8-string.

Good luck b0b, I'll stay out of this one. If you really want it, bid high. What's a couple
of hundred $ to get a dream axe?

Anyone interested in helping b0b buy this guitar?
Wouldn't it be great to help the originator of the SGF to buy a new guitar? It's very rare and it's going to go high $$$. I've donated $25, how about you?

Thanks folks. I'm currently the highest bidder, and it's in its last day. I've added your donations to my bid. I hope it's enough to scare away any last minute poachers. Shocked

Congrats b0b, Looks like a fine example from 1955, it's kind of strange the early ones did not have string thru but they changed that quickly. Rick was known for their string thru models from the 1930s on, I've had both and I think I can hear a difference but both sound good in their own way. I only have non-string thrus presently. They are all good!
