I have noticed that some people have mentioned some size differences when talking about Williams PSG.

What exactly are these differences and how do they affect look, feel, playability, comfort, etc.

I am still trying to narrow down which new PSG to order, and since there is no St. Louis convention this year, will have to buy sight unseen. Any help appreciated.

My brain doesn't really work in terms of numbers. I don't have enough experience to know that a "x" inch steel guitar is more or less than what the standard dimensions are. Does it look or feel longer or shorter, wider or taller, etc? Will a person notice a difference if they sit down at a Williams for the first time after playing a Zum or some other brand first?

There is nothing unusual about a Williams. It's well built, well finished, and very playable. I ordered the standard size because I'm standard size (5' 9" and neither fat nor thin!)

The only thing I would say is that to me the string spacing feels slightly closer than my other guitar, but it's marginal.

Mine feel good, have a Williams, showpro,emmons and had a mullen and a Franklin if they feel different it only last a few minutes. Williams has a short key head, makes overall length shorter,not fret length. Also seems lighter. Strings feed through a hold in finger instead of a pin . Can also say Showpro and William Co. Owners seem to be nice folk, Although I haven't had occasion or need to contact Mullen. If I only had one guitar anyway ,any small differences would have been unknown.

I just did some trading this weekend and acquired an Infinity. I was playing a Williams and before the Williams I was playing a LeGrande II. I don't notice any difference in the three where size is concerned. The Emmons has pedals that are about 3 1/4 inches in length which is not very comfortable for me with a size 13 shoe. Mullen is 4 inches and Williams is 3 5/8 and Infinity is 3 3/4. The Infinity pedals are wide like a push pull so they work for me. Williams was the only builder I communicated with that was willing to modify the pedals for me. I have a keyless Williams on order and I suspect the shorter body might be noticable. I've played quite a few brands and other than weight, mechanical designs and pedal length nothing really struck me as different in actual size of the bodies.

Williams measure 31-1/2" in length, Emmons SKH-32-1/2" (LeGrande II & III possibly longer), Show Pro, 33-1/2". Hope that this information proves helpful...FYI: Williams are great guitars and Mr. Rudolph a fine gentleman to deal with. Spoke to him concerning ordering a new 'Williams' and his estimated lead time was for January give or take.

A Williams Keyless is 28 1/2 inches in length but they have 24 1/2 inch scales. Bill Rudolph definitely has the best customer service of any builder I communicated with. I ordered my guitar June 5 with an October delivery date.

I can't say I know this, but I'm pretty sure I've read that Williams rigs have tighter string spacing. Could that be what the OP, William read?

I mentioned above that I thought the Williams was tighter spaced, so I measured both my guitars and here are the results:-

Traditional 11/32" = 0.34"
Excel = 0.34"
Williams = 0.33"

So yes, a hundredth of an inch closer.

All guitars have different characteristics so I would recommend you continue to research. If you can go to a music store that sells steels you can demo them there. I have a “New” Williams SD12 Extended E9 which plays and feels different than my Mullen SD10. The Pedals and levers on the Mullen have less travel plus the tone is different because of the pick up. I also have 15 six string guitars and they all play and sound different.

So that being said, there are lots of great guitars out there to choose from so take your time, ask lots of questions. If you are buying new it is “Most” important to hopefully understand the characteristics of the guitar that you are buying.

Ditto on Bill Rudolph, great customer service and high quality instruments, I ordered an SD10 late May and expecting delivery this month, can't wait! Very Happy
