I’ve been playing a Mullen RP For about 14 years now… And I am on my fourth one. The first three had the Mullen stock pick up and it was always fine but on my last one I ordered it with a Wallace true tone… I was hoping it would give me more of an push pull tone. I didn’t notice it right away but it had a pretty bad hum with the V pedal down all the way. I just replaced the TT with a 705… And man what a difference!! The hum is gone ... And my steel is louder and brighter… Of course now I have to completely rethink my tone settings… But that’s OK LOL! Just thought I’d share this with everyone also it was suggested that I attached the ground wire to one of the screws in my RKR knee lever...Which I did but then I noticed when I played a chord And then hit that lever there was static in the sound… Well I didn’t like that at all so I reattached the ground wire to a screw on the changer frame. No more problems. Well that’s my story and I’m sticking to it everybody be safe out there!

705's sound great in some steels, I'm taking it out of one because it sounds lie a calliope. It's a good calliope sound, just not what i'm looking for. part of the problem maybe that it's a tall pickup housing and baseplate in a shallow pickup cavity, I measured them here: https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=360731

That's what needed to happen with the TrueTone and you would have no hum.

I have a G2 with the stock single coil pups and had a hum as well. I lived with it for a while and researched it a lot here on the forum and decided it was just a single coil thing. I finally decided to do something about it when I tried to do some recording and felt I had to get rid of the hum. Long story short.....per a suggestion on the forum, I turned the guitar 90 degrees and the hum went almost completely away. when I turned the guitar back to its original position, the hum did not come back. Weird right?

I have a 2003 ZumSteel, that, I put a 19,500 True Tone pickup in and there is absolutely no hum at all.

Yes all single coils MUST be grounded to the Changer and THEN you will have No Hum.!!! UNLESS> ha...well I won't go into several reasons they will hum as its too far few between...bla bla.....there's nothing like the real growl of a single coil pickup.
