I wouldn't be to worried if people think it's not a lap steel just because it's got benders or not. Just the same as you might do the odd string pull. I think it's a great idea, one I have been thinking of doing on one of my guitars myself. I will look on very keenly to your see project as I know you are very professional with you music. _________________ Canopus d-8

Looks like a lap steel to me. All you need now, is some fancy silver flatware arms for the levers. Something stolen from grandma's set in the cedar box with velvet lining... |

look forward to the finished guitar.
you need rollers for the strings that you are changing pitch on. otherwise you will be tuning all the time. |

I opted for a greatly simplified design this time, since it will be the first steel guitar I am building with string benders. I wanted to quickly get the body shaped and ready for hardware. (expecting that making the benders operate smoothly will require more time and experimentation.)
I hope to complete the installation and testing with no "extra holes" drilled. _________________ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYG9cvwCPKuXpGofziPNieA/feed?activity_view=3 |

I would think rollers at both ends might be the way to go. Cool project and thanks for showing us. Good luck! _________________ Current Lap Steels: 1953 Supro |

Hardware fitted, Pickup tested, getting ready for stain and finish.
The fretboard is temporary, I will be designing a new one.
I am going to complete the build without installing the string bender to fine tune and adjust anything needing alignment. I am thinking an "E" based tuning... perhaps E9 without the Top 2 re-entrant strings? _________________ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYG9cvwCPKuXpGofziPNieA/feed?activity_view=3 |

I finished it, assembled and tested... but the string bender was causing too much noise and friction on the bridge. I ended up breaking a string and now I need to buy or make a roller bridge.
So Here is serial number 28 completed without benders.
It is fun to play, and I have experimented with C6 and A6 tuning variants.
It is strung up with Dunlop Strings so I used the Dunlop sticker to hide the string bender holes... Dom

Very cool,Dom! Too bad about the bender. That would have been fun. I like the clean look of the guitar. |
