This is an Emmons D-11(on a D-10 body) cut tail, 10 peds and 5 knees, built by Fred Trogdon in 1969, serial# 1398D. There were four D-11’s and this one was made for Bernie Watruba, who graciously sent me a note about the guitar and said that it had great tone and he wished he had never let it go. Bernie sold it to Hank Eldridge in the early 80’s. The guitar is at Steel Guitars of North Country: http://www.steelguitars.me
I’ve lowered the price to $5800.

Chas, I remember seeing Bernie Watruba playing this Emmons back in the mid 1970's at a bar called Nashville North in East Peoria IL. Bernie is a tremendous musician and sounded great on this Emmons. The second I saw the topic "1969 Emmons D-11 PP", I knew it had to be the same steel I saw back then. There couldn't have been too many P/P Emmons 11 string steels made. |

I've played this gtr, and it's awesome. Having that low E string on your E9 neck is just beyond cool...especially if you play in a 4 piece band.
Good luck with the sale, Chas... |

In addition to having 11 string necks, it also has 10 foot pedals. |

I shoulda known it belonged to you, Chas. I was guessing it was a Greg Leisz (sp) castoff on my 1st visit to the Palenscar stable..drooling heavy since I play a D-11 Fessy frequently. Chas, I would guess you have discarded enough strings by now to have woven your own set of steel-belted tires! |

It was most likely around 1978 when Bernie was in East Peoria. I was living in Denver and had bought a D12 push-pull from John Macy, The band I was playing in, was from IL and went back to IL to play a few times a year. Bernie was working with some friends at the Nashville North bar in E.Peoria and our band showed up to see our friends play, as those bars were open 'til 4AM. I told Bernie that I'd bought an Emmons D-12 with 11 and 10 and he thought that that was the string setup. I took him a while to understand that the guitar had 11 knees and 10 floor pedals!
Cool guitar,Chas. Bernie was a fine player. |

Back to the top. Because this guitar has 11 strings on a 10 string body, it sounds really good. I almost never played the bottom E on the E9 neck, but just having it there added a presence. |

Bump for my buddy Chas. My Mullen D12's C6 i have strung as 11 string, so this guitar allows C6 plus high G and the D on top, great tuning. _________________ E9 INSTRUCTION

Michael, no, this is a 1969 cut tail. The only D-11 wraparound, made for Bill Echols, is out in my studio. |

That is the first time I heard Fred Trogdon mentioned in a long time. He was a wonderful man and an unsung hero of the steel guitar world. I have only seen one eleven string guitar and the low E is a great idea! _________________ Emmons D-10, ST-10,LD-10 III, NV-112,Fender Deluxe Reverb. Authorized wholesale dealer musicorp.com! |
