Please note I'm being a good boy and not hijacking a For Sale post to change the subject. But if you look at the copedent at the bottom of THIS you'll see a change on the rear neck (P5) that I've seen before, kind of.

My very first guitar was a pull-release with fixed cranks that would have done that if they'd been hooked up. They baffled me at the time so I ignored them. It appears to give Eb9 at the nut.

Anyone know how it would have been used musically?

PM member Ray Mangrum. He had Williams set that up and he could answer your question. I wish I could answer it but I got in over my head with that guitar. Very Happy

That is an unusual pedal. 3 of those 4 notes on P5 are already available on other changes. With just P5, you get:

Cm7 (no 5th) on strings 8-10.
Bbm on strings 6-8 (or you can add the 6th, maj7, 9th ,#11 with strings 2-5.)
Gm7b5b6 on strings 5-9(?)

Eb to Bb is a 5th interval; and, so is Bb to F. Unless there's another use I'm missing, I would've rather had 4th intervals on P5 for quartal voicings. Maybe it's supposed to be used with another pedal/lever?

Thanks, Ken. I was just looking in the Winston book and saw this change had been used by Jimmy Crawford and Buddy Cage (who are sadly no longer around to ask) and Doug Jernigan, who hopefully is.

I followed another link within your link and found a discussion which likened the change in question to the P8 boo-wah, in the sense that it's useful for raising 7 to C# even if you don't use the full range of notes.

Its main purpose on the face of it is to offer a different voicing - further study required, I think!
