George, I believe Roger Edgington (steel player for Billy Mata), uses them on both necks of his ZumSteel’s.

Interesting. I'm taking delivery of an Emmons pp on Tuesday. My concern is not so much that the George L won't sound good, but I'm afraid part of the PP sound is going to be lost without the old single coil pickup.

I replaced the Barcus Barry pup on my MCI Arlington with one. Thought the original sounded a bit thin. The E-66 sounds really good to me.

george, a friend of mine has a 1974 emmons pp that the single coil went bad, we did not have a single coil to replace it with, so to keep his guitar up and running we put an e66 in it. he swears that it it sounds better than the original....thanks jack

The E66 has probably been the most popular pickup for over 40 years.

George, as you probably know, Carter guitars all had the e66 PUs and I thought sounded great. On my ZUM, I changed the top neck to an e66 and like it a lot. I changed it because many of us that were playing Broadway in Nashville would get a terrible buzz with the single coils. The wiring down there is bad, overloaded and to many Bud Light signs!

I had them on my Carters and now have one on my Legrande II. No issues. I also have a 10:1 on the C6 neck. I require one of my Steels to have HumBuckers, for the exact reason Ron described above.

I have kept my Carter Starter around for gigs with very small spaces... but, I couldn't tolerate the original pickup that it came with.

I knew that I loved the way my GFI sounded, with GFI-II pickups installed. Somewhere I had read that the GFI-II was built by George L's, and was based on the E-66.

So, I installed an E-66 on the Starter and it now sounds very full just as the GFI does. I would recommend it infinitely!

I got the pp Tuesday. Sounds awesome. I'm going to stay with the E-66. But then again.......you know how it goes. Never say never.
