How many Mike Scaggs restorations are there out there? I’ll show you mine... show us yours.
I am privileged to own the latest restoration of a 1969 Emmons Push-Pull.
Xx
I have played a 1967 Push-Pull for many years. I choked a bit but traded my beloved 1967 Bolt-On for this Scaggs resto. Man, I done good. This is an incredible Push-Pull.
Everything I wanted it to be... a pure, simple, wonderful Push-Pull.
Here are a couple of pictures of it. Thanks, Mike Scaggs. I totally love it.
You will find a complete chronicle of the restoration of my Emmons Push-Pull, serial #1304 here:

That's a beautiful guitar! I don't own one of Mike's restorations but I follow him on Facebook and wow! He makes pedal steels and tube amps look better than they did when they were new. Totally incredible!
Mike's work is like those guys that do frame off restorations of old cars and trucks. They disassemble it to the point all the bolts, nuts and washers are in a jar and each of them gets polished too. Something that was never done at the factory. They put 15 or more coats of lacquer on them till the finish looks like deep glass. Something that was never done when new.
Mike is the man for rebuilds. Every single part gets his undivided attention. You sure got a pretty one there! Congratulations! |

Folks, I am humbled and honored by your comments, thank you so much for your words and kindness. I truly appreciate you all.
I think my total number of 100% restorations are 7
Blue - Canada
Ruby - Florida
Brownie - Texas
Midnight - Tennessee
James Blonde - Texas
Rosalee - California
Layla - Texas
I have also done a number of guitars for customers that were complete teardowns and re-works. There is a lot of hours and expense that goes into this so I have decided to take a long needed break from steels and just build/repair tube amplifiers for now.
Again, thank you and cheers!!! _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

Here are 3 of The Scaggs Steels I've been blessed to own. Rosalee now resides with Rick Heins California or Arizona. '71 James Blonde resides with Billy Tam in Baton Rouge, and '73 Brownie is still in Texas but with Mark Greenway.

Wow! I’m impressed beyond words.
I have the Layla restoration and I could not be happier with any other guitar.
It is remarkable in playability and tone. I had a 67 PP for many years and gave it up for the Layla.
Are you playing yours on gigs? Do you dare take it out of the house? I’m lucky. I’m retired and mine resides in my music room.
Best regards and stay safe.

Here is a picture of "Ruby" before I picked the guitar up at Mike's shop. I believe this is the first guitar that he removed the original "mica" from and reworked the body with veneer and a lacquer finish. This is a terrific guitar and Mikes work is outstanding.
Mike chose "red" flocking for this restoration.
In it's new home in Florida.

Still out there.
If you’re willing, we’d love to see them.
This is a very special family of steels!

On a regular basis, I read on the Forum about how the "playability" on PP guitars is enhanced after rebuilds by the likes of Mike Cass, Mike Scaggs, etc. While the guitars' beauty is enhanced after craftsman such as these guys do their magic are done working on them, I am wondering what the tricks are that these fellas use to enhance the playability of these great guitars, which for me, is the most important outcome in the end. Maybe Mike Scaggs can fill us in on what he does to render the Emmons PPs better performers from a playing standpoint? Is it simply a matter of setting them up correctly, getting the timing as perfect as possible, changing springs to those with less tension on the pedal returns or are there other measures the we can all employ to allow our PPs to perform at their very best? _________________ John Brabant

Posted 12 Aug 2020 1:42 pm I've got Rosalee!
|
|
I bought Rosalee from Daymon earlier this year and I couldn't be happier with it. It sounds great and looks amazing. The only downside is that I have to keep it clean more often, due to finish. I had Lynn Stafford set it up to my specs and it now plays better than any P/P I've played before. It's a keeper!
