Gene Davis and Star Routers Album Cover..........

Is that JD in the lower left corner? Couldn't be much older than 17, 18. Sure resembles him.

I spent a few months in Southern California in the middle of 1959. Garden Grove, Santa Anna. I was just an 18 year old country boy off the farm here in Okla. Was just trying to learn 6 string guitar. New nothing and scared to death to get out any. Country bumpkin was overwhelmed. I wish I had found some of these great places and some of the great musician's. I did catch some of them on TV but did not understand what a great time it was for me. Oh Well, J.R. Rose

Gene Davis's son Randy operates "Gene's Country Club" in Pevely, Missouri

Most groups feature steel in their line-ups.

Jay Dee did play with Gene Davis in the late 60s, as seen here

but that's not him on the album in question which was done circa '74. the steel player is Lew Houston, pictured lower right

here's another song from the album called Haulin Steel, featuring Lew's great chicken pickin style on the steel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lxh90pmO_5w

and here's another picture of Lew with the band, plus special guest
