| I see people complain about the weight of pedal steels all the time. Why don’t more pedal steel cases have wheels? Both of my steels are around 70 lbs with the case and it is absolutely brutal to carry either of them. I’m wondering if anyone knows a GOOD reason why pedal steel cases don’t have wheels. When I built my own case for my first pedal steel I put wheels and a handle so you can pull it. I appreciate any insight. Thanks. |

They have wheel for heavy duty luggage.
They also sell hardware.
For steel guitar cases
Latches , hinges , rivets you name they got
Small or large orders they have good service |

| I am taking around a little student model GS10 Emmons 3x3 for this exact reason. I have a fully loaded Legrande S10 but until someone pays me enough it's staying in the case or for special occasions. Miss C6 but no one seems to care so the GS10 goes out. |

A luggage cart can mke things easier. I used to use one.

So far all the answers have addressed work-arounds for not having wheels on the original case. But no one has addressed the OP's question of why wheeled cases are not standard for PSGs in the first place.
I don't have the full answer but I know that I once had a case with exterior-mounted wheels and, when I flew with it, it came out of the luggage conveyor belt with one wheel missing. So they can tend to get knocked off.
Having said that, I have been using interior-mounted Wheel-EZE cases for probably 20 years now and never had that problem and I'm thankful for the wheels every time I take it out.
Perhaps some of the case-manufacturers here would like to chime in?

| I made up my mind I would never even try to fly a pedal steel somewhere. I would just try and rent one of something. Flew with a 10 string lap couple of times as carry on. Would never ship my pedal steel. |

My 2018 Williams came in a wheeled case. Heavy, but wheeled. The guitar itself is light.

| I've wondered about that too- as far as I can tell Williams is the only company that offers that option with a new guitar. In my dreams I imagine a strong lightweight flight- worthy recessed wheeled case that gets an s10 under 50lbs. In reality I'm running through a European airport carrying 80+lbs to catch the next flight while people yell at me in many languages. Those aftermarket plastic padded gator/skb styles are the closest for me. |

Nice Excel steel could save you a lot of weight .
Here’s one built in the Seventies by the Excel steel company 26 pounds soaking wet out of the case not bad for a d 10

My Excel guitar weighs the same as my Williams (both uni 12s), but the case is so much lighter it doesn't need wheels.

| I have a Magna-Cart. Weighs about 3 lbs. Folds-up to near nothing. Rolls my guitar, amp, pack-a-seat. I'm too old to carry any of my stuff, but I can roll it! |

We played a big nursing home and had to load AMPS and PA system in wheel chairs to get our equipment through the kitchen loading area to the big social area in the center of the building.
Went the next day and bought me a folding hand truck. Seat on bottom, Speaker, Guitar case on top and hang my Evans AH 200 Amp bag on the handles and away I go.
I still think harmonica, Play with a friend who in the summer rides his motor cycle carries 2 boxes of harmonicas in his saddle bags. |

Some companies make CARTS ya know ! 
I don't want wheels on my Steel cases, then the Steel might not fit on the cart and may also get hung up in doorways.
Not that it matters but we still have to LIFT it out of the car and then LIFT it back in . Well, unless someone else does that for us.
I am a one tripper with the Small Rock Cart. NO stairs of course. I don't do stairs.
Steel, amp, ext speaker, seat, gig bag and a Tele, One trip with WHEELS ! 
Some gigs, if there is room, the Steel case never comes off the cart.

| Aside from the reason Jim Cohen mentioned, the vibration a pedal steel gets from being rolled around on hard, small-diameter wheels can cause damage to it. Wheels are okay on a hard/smooth floor. But across a bumpy parking lot, it's just an invitation to shock damage and loosening hardware. |

 Scott Dixon light weight aluminium flight cases have built in wheels, mine has flown numerous times, including trans Atlantic, with my MSA Milly in at 21.5 Kilos, including legs and pedal bar, this takes it under the standard 23kg baggage weight so no need for split cases.

So don't roll it on a hard bumpy parking lot ! Pull up to the curb, sidewalk or doorway, unload put it all on the cart, and go inside.
I play a 2x month show, 5 years now. NO issues. Maybe it takes 10 years!

I also have a Rock 'n' Roller cart, such as Roger linked above and I think it's great. I use it when I want to transport all my gear at once and there's too much for 2 hands. But when I fly to shows or gigs, it would become an extra piece to take along (and be charged luggage fees for), so having the wheels on the steel case is really appreciated.

| I have custom built split cases with wheels built by Wade Thomas. Also use a hand cart that converts to a 4 wheel hand cart. It will carry all my gear if needed at once. |
